Surgery was a success!

We arrived at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan at 5:30 a.m. and by 8:45 a.m. they took Norris back for surgery.

By 12:30 p.m. he was out of surgery and was taken to SCU (Surgical Cardiac Unit). By 3:30 p.m., the family was able to see him, two at a time for 5 minutes only. He look real good considering what he had gone through.

He did have a double bypass surgery. The surgeron told us there weren't any surprises and that Norris did real well in surgery. They did have to use the heart and Lung machine because the blocked artery was deep.
His vital signs were strong and continue to be so.

When I saw Norris he asked," if we got a picture of that turck?" I said, "What truck?" He replied, "The one that ran over me!"  He still has his sense of humor.

Later tonight they will have him sit on the edge of the bed and take a couple of steps. It's amazing how they get people up now. Years ago, people were kept in bed for a week to 10 days.

Thank you for all your prayers and wonderful email and messages on facebook.

  2. What wonderful news! Remeber to take care of yourself too, because once he comes home from the hospital, you're gonna be the "nurse" on duty...'round the clock...until he's completely recovered. ;)

  3. So glad to hear that all went well. I wish him a speedy recovery! You will be amazed at how well he will do - I was when my DH had his heart surgery in 1999, you'd never know now that he ever had one if it wasn't for the scar on his chest.

  5. Jane,
So glad to hear good news! Yes, they do get you up and walking right away. I was really surprised, when a friend had a double knee replacement, how soon they had her up and about.
I wish him a speedy recovery.
