Storybook Friends Match Game

Happy Monday!
This week I'm featuring cards and 3-D projects using new stamp sets, Big Shot Dies and Framelits.  Today I have a homemade Match Game I made using the new Storybook Friends Stamp Set on page 60 of the New 2012-2013 Catalog.

I started out with coasters I bought in a bulk buy and cut 12 of them 3" x 3". I stamped the animal images right on the coaster using Stazon Black Ink. I colored in the animals using Stampin' Write Markers and then using a Stampin' Sponge I sponged the edges of the coasters. Finally, I stamped each coaster the same using Circus Circle stamp set.

They fit nicely in the Clear Mount stamp case.

I used some retired designer series paper for the front and back cover. I used now retired Rough Type letters for the front of the case.
I made the game for two of our great nephews who are getting ready for a brand new baby sister anytime now. I'm going to mail the game to them the day little baby dear is born so they will have something to open and be able to have a new game.
I used one of the Clear-Mount Stamp Cases that clear mount stamps come in. Stampin' Up! sells these 4 to a set.

This game will fit nicely in a diaper bag and the case if thin enough and narrow enough for little hands to carry.
I hope you enjoyed my game. Give it a try. It's so much fun to make!

Clothes Pin Note Holders

I was able to get in on a bulk buy a few weeks ago. One of the items in the buy was over-size clothes pins. The pins measure 6" long. At first I wondered what I would do with them. I thought they were so cool when I saw them offered, I jumped at the chance not thinking any further. Well, I did find a use for them and now I can't stop making them!

All but the clip with the Daffodil Delight seam binding and Summer Smooches are made with retired paper and left over silk flowers I found from a couple of years ago.

This side view show how thick the clothes pins are.
This one I made for myself. As you can see, it was made to hold recipes when I cook. I does make reading the recipes a lot nicer and keeps it clean.
The last two are really much prettier than the photo. I had difficulty captioning the right light. But you get the idea. You might be able to find an over-sized clothes pin at your local craft store.

I hope you had a great week-end. It's been so hot here in Michigan...over 100 degrees on several days last week. Today it's in the mid- upper 80's and it feels cool!

New Stamp Pads 2012-2013

Look at these new stamp pads! They really do make stamping more fun...I love how they cover the rubber stamp with very little tapping of the pad on the stamp. The stamped image is very crisp and clear. What are they made of you ask??? Foam...read on...

With the introduction of the 2012-2013 annual catalog, we have made a very big change to our Stampin’ Pads.
Introducing firm foam pads! They change your stamping experience for the better.
We know you’re going to love these new Stampin’ Pads—just look at all the exciting benefits listed below:
  • Provide better ink coverage for your stamps!
  • Light-tap stamping produces flawless images!
In addition, our new Stampin’ Pads
  • Create wonderfully solid images. The Firm Foam releases more ink onto your rubber stamp than the felt pads. When using the Firm Foam pad, your stamp will get an even, solid covering of ink that you may not have been able to achieve with the felt pads. Please note: if you are using the ink pad frequently you may need to re-ink your Firm Foam pad more often.
  • Have a crisply printed, glossy label on the top of the pad that is easier to read and that will not fade or chip off!
  • Come with color name labels in all four languages (English, Spanish, French, and German)--just choose your language, peel it off the back, and add it to the side of the pad for easy identification!
  • Use the same patented flip-top case design that stores the inking surface upside down, so the pad surface stays moist!
  • Are available in all colors, including our exclusive In Colors!
Please note: Five ink colors have undergone formula changes to improve functionality and color stability with the new firm foam pads. These colors are
  • Basic Black
  • Basic Gray
  • Marina Mist
  • Perfect Plum
  • Tempting Turquoise
All five colors of the reformulated inks have been fully tested and approved. While using the new ink formula in the old Stampin’ Pads is fine, we do not recommend using the old ink formula for these five colors in the new firm foam pads. Any refills purchased after April 30, 2012, will contain the new formulated ink.

Happy 4th of July Table Center Piece

Happy 4th of July!
I hope you are having a wonderful day. It's 94 degrees here in Kalamazoo today. We were going to have a BBQ and eat outside but instead we are eating inside. I made his table center piece this morning.

This was taken outside but after I realized how hot it was we moved inside. I had trouble getting a good photo due to the shade on our deck.
This is a better photo. You can see how sparkly the Red and Silver  Glimmer paper is.

I used a left over vase and filled it with bubble wrap. It works well to hold the Bamboo Skewers in place.
Next, I cut out Whisper White, Not Quite Navy, Red and Silver Glimmer paper using the Perfect Pennants Bigz L die using the Big Shot.
I made the flowers using Fancy Flower and 1 3/4" Scallop Circle Punches. For the center of the flowers I used Boho Blossoms and 1/2" Circle Punches.
Ribbon: 5/8" Whisper White Organza , 1/8" Taffeta, and now retired 5/8 Night of Navy Satin Ribbon.
Sticky Strip worked great to adhere the dies to each other,  to the Bamboo Skewers and for the ribbon.
I wrapped 5/8" Night of Navy Satin Ribbon and 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon around the vase, using Sticky Strip again.

Happy 4th of July!

Good afternoon! Yesterday I made a few Fourth of July cards.
I used different ideas from traditional 4th of July cards.
I saw on Patty Bennett's blog that she used some of our designer fabric as ribbon on one of her cards. So I gave it a try. I really like the look.

This card I used one of our new dies; Oval Accent Bigz Clear. I love this die! It can be used in many different ways. I added the now retired Flower Daisy #2 and Real Red Brights button with white Bakers Twine.
This card I used the Floral Frames Framelits die for the center of my card. I made the flower by punching out three Whisper White punches using the 1 3/4" Scallop Circle punch. I spritzed the punch circles with water and crunched them in a ball. Very carefully, I straightened them out and punch a hole in the center of the flower using the Paper- Piercing Tool, added a brad the crunched the flower beginning with the top layer; crunching it tightly. Then, I opened the flower very carefully using the Paper-Piercing Tool and added Night of Navy ink on the outer edges of the flower. After allowing the flower to dry, I used the same brad to adhere it to the Floral Framelits. I used Vera-Mark ink and then gold embossing powder for the background. Finally, I added the happy and 4th using stamps from the now retired Extreme Elements set.

The finial card was made using Night of Navy, Whisper White and Real Red card stock. I used a Whisper White button and died the  white Bakers Twine red using Real Red re-inker
I added Rhinestones to the top and bottom to give the card some sparkle!

Stampin' by Sarah

Today I'm featuring our 15 year old granddaughter, Sarah.
She and I stamped together last week. Here's what she came up with. I hope you will enjoy her work.

Sarah used Betsy's Blossoms stamp set.

Her idea using the now retired Inspired by Nature set.

Sarah decorated her envelopes to add a special touch to her projects.
Sarah will be a Sophomore at Paw Paw, High School in the fall. She is interested in Art Therapy and working with children. Next spring break Sarah is traveling to Europe to visit Rome, England and Germany with other classmates to study works of art and sculptures.
